WHITTIER, Alaska – August 12, 2021 — Jim Hunt, Whittier City Manager, has invited Sean Thorne, Libertarian Candidate for U.S. Senate, for a rare community political announcement event August 16, 2021, in Whittier, on the top floor of Begich Tower, in the West Community Room.

Doors open at 4 p.m., and the public is invited to attend this free event introducing the Anchorage-born, Wasilla-raised U.S. Army Veteran that has entered the race to represent Alaskans in the Senate. Whittier Mayor Dave Dickason will introduce Thorne at 5 p.m. and open the forum for questions. “This is a great opportunity for the citizens of Whittier to get to have a meet and greet with a Senate candidate, and to express concerns over the issues that the community is currently facing,” Hunt said.

Thorne is running for Senate to be the people’s voice in Washington D.C., limit federal control over Alaska and advocate for more local governance, protect the liberties of every American, and work with industry to create jobs while ensuring environmental sustainability.

“We must have a new type of politician for Alaska that supports all our diverse people, our unique perspectives, and puts power back in the hands of Alaskans,” said Thorne, who left active service in 2020. “I will never make decisions based on what is best for any political party or special interest. My decisions will be based on what’s best for Alaska.”

Thorne attended college at Idaho State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. After college, he became an Army Logistics Officer and spent much of his time in service working with the Republic of Korea, and visiting 10 other countries. He currently lives in Anchorage where he is training for a career as a bush pilot. In his spare time, Thorne enjoys everything outdoors, cooking, board games, and spending time with his family.
