I am Sean Thorne and I am running for US Senate. I am a proud born and raised Alaskan, a proud American and a proud U.S. Army Veteran.
Like many of you, I am extremely concerned with many of the current trends in the Federal Government. Big Government on both sides of the aisle has implemented drastic and overreaching policies that directly impede the American spirit and freedom on numerous fronts.
We must all stand up and be the change we want to see. It's time we make our voices heard and remove the problem players from their entrenched positions of power. We must have a new type of politician for Alaska that supports all our diverse people, all our diverse unique perspectives, and puts power back in the hands of Alaskans.
I will never make decisions for what is best for any political party or special interest, but I will ALWAYS make decisions that are best for Alaska and all Alaskans.
Candidates often state that they will defend the freedom of their constituents, but they are filled with compromises to what they consider to be freedom and rights. I want to make it clear that I stand for all Alaskans, whether they are Alaska Natives, recent immigrants, religious, non-religious, LGBTQ+, gun owners, free thinkers, loud speakers, sourdoughs, cannabis users, etc... I want you to be able to be you, and I do not want others to use the government to tell you you can’t. To me, Alaska is synonymous with frontier freedom; a place where you can go to be yourself and be left alone. For any choice that affects your rights as an individual, I believe you should decide.
How Alaska manages the conservation and development of its natural resources is upheaved with every change in federal administration, leaving our economy vulnerable to whims and objectives outside of our control or interest. I will make all efforts to restore Alaska’s ability to manage our own land and our natural resources. Outside of our natural resource development, I will take action to remove obstacles that prevent Alaska from pursuing other economic opportunities such as legal gambling, remote working, aerospace industry and Alaskan manufacturing while supporting existing industries with actions such as freeing up federal land, reforming transportation and shipping regulation to lower the cost of living, and federal decriminalization of marijuana."
" As Alaskans, our proudest asset is our beautiful and robust frontier that we have the great fortune of living in. Hiking, hunting, fishing, exploring, and good old fashioned adventure are our way of life. In my travels, I have seen many places where people and governments have irreparably destroyed their share of nature. It is important that we create and enforce effective systems, and new ways of doing things that ensure access and sustainment of our renewable resources for all future generations. I will always prioritize natural resource access for Alaska residents above other interests. We can utilize our resources responsibly and also protect our forests, animals, and fisheries. We can do this while working WITH industry, not against, to ensure that our economy can survive while our environment flourishes."
You see it every day in the news; pundits and politicians saying things that no one believes because they are expected to by their parties and special interests. You have my solemn commitment that I will NEVER use political doublespeak or mince my words, and will ALWAYS do everything I can to give you the bare, honest truth. My interest is in truth, reality and open discourse. My duty is to you, and my integrity dictates everything I do once elected reflects that. People do not exist to serve the government, government exists to serve people. When elected, I will ensure direct and straightforward communication from myself and my team to the Alaskan people. I will never tell you something just because it is what you want to hear - only the facts and ideas. No filters, no bull."
"I do not feel represented by Republicans or Democrats, and I have met many Alaskans that feel that way as well. With ranked choice voting, Alaskans have the ability to select the candidates we feel best represent us, and don't have to choose between the "LESSER OF TWO EVILS" anymore! When elected, I will support the interests of real Alaskans, not special interests, political parties or mega corporations. Alaska is incredibly diverse and our way of life is like no other. I will represent all Alaskans' rights. I want you to be able to be your true self, and to be able to live the life you want to, without anyone being able to use the government to shut you down."
But your support as an individual is vital.

"I am a proud Veteran. When it comes to military policy and defense spending we need to make some changes. Military industrial complex lobbyists have corrupted our federal political system, and have had us spending money on projects we don't need and fighting wars for ambiguous goals for too long. For generations, we have been throwing away the lives of our brave young service members by fighting generational wars with no real purpose and no objective. It has to stop. I will do everything in my power to get us out of such conflicts and bring our warriors home."
"What Alaska does with its resources and land should be a decision left to Alaskans, not the ever changing political whims of
. I believe in responsible and sustainable development of natural resources, while working with companies and not against them to ensure sustainability into the future."
"I am a lifelong outdoorsman. As Alaskans, we all can agree that our environment is our most precious resource. We must protect our environment, and ensure continued access for current and future generations to hunting, fishing, and untamed wilderness."
"We can all agree that
to affordable healthcare is a serious concern for Alaskan. Industry practices, lack of competition in our market, and regulatory
remain obstacles to solving these issues. I believe opening up free market competition is the best way to drive down Alaska’s soaring healthcare expenses and open up access."
"Technology today enables us to revolutionize the way we educate our students, and Alaska has the opportunity to be at the leading edge of change. Through enabling families to have choice in their education, we can enable our students to fill future future needs of our states economy. I also support FAFSA reform to ensure that colleges are not predating people into taking loans for degrees that will never pay off, while bolstering eligibility for vocational and trade schools."
"I am an unapologetic supporter of ethical capitalism and free trade. I will always prioritize what is best for individuals and small businesses."
"I believe in your right to live free, the way you want, without the government telling you otherwise. I support the rights of all people and groups to live the life you want to, and I will resist any law that makes distinction therein. The government should exist to protect your rights, not to manage your personal life."
"Nearly everyone I have met in my travels shares the same desire to thrive in life that we do. I believe in a peaceful foreign policy that supports freedom, open trade, and communal solutions to shared problems. I am against military intervention in the affairs of foreign countries."
"The Second Amendment is the part of the constitution that protects all others. I am as pro 2A as you can get. I will resist all attempts to form a firearm registry or to take away your guns, your constitutional rights, and your right to defend yourself. I will also work to create a program that leads to universal concealed carry certification. "
"What you do with your body is your choice. It’s quite simply not the government’s business."
"We are all acutely aware that the scales of justice often do not balance quite the way they should. There are far too many people with convictions for victimless crimes, while
egregious offenders walk away free.
Unless you are doing something that is directly to the detriment of another, I don't think our law enforcement should waste resources enforcing a law. If we stop punishing victimless crimes, we can focus attention on ensuring quick and speedy trial of cases that actually should be tried."
"At all levels of government, there is a disgusting lack of transparency and accountability. I am against secret backroom deals and covert domestic programs. I will always support legislation that creates transparency in the government, and holds bad players accountable for their actions."
"I am a supporter of law enforcement, and believe that nearly all people in law enforcement are great people doing the best they can. We have seen recently that there are definitely some bad players in law enforcement though, and we need non-partisan police reform that ensures departments can identify problem people and that bad actors can be held accountable, while also protecting the majority that are doing the right thing."
Not sure what it means to be a Libertarian? Check out this video from the Chair of the Alaska Libertarian Party, Jon Watts, and who knows... maybe you're a Libertarian?
"The two 'main' parties claim to represent America, but I often find the decisions they make aren't truly in the best interest of the individuals. Their platforms are often outdated, isolating constituents and forcing candidates to tow the party line. Instead, I find most people's own personal beliefs are not as simple as left and right and as a Libertarian I feel that it is not my right to make decisions that should be determined by the individual."
